What Does a Dental SEO Consultant Do?

A dental SEO consultant improves how your practice appears when nearby patients search for a dentist or a treatment: in Google’s map pack, the organic results and AI answers. The work covers your Google Business Profile, treatment pages, technical fixes, reviews and local authority, built within GDC advertising guidance and measured in enquiries rather than rankings alone.

In practice, that means three things:

Why Good Practices Stay Invisible on Google

Clinical reputation doesn’t rank on its own. These six patterns hold practices back more often than anything else.

01

You rank for your name, not your treatments

People who already know you can find you. Someone searching “composite bonding Woking” finds another practice. The usual cause is a missing treatment page, or a thin one that came with a website template.

02

Your map pack position changes street by street

You might appear first at the practice door and not at all two miles away. A single rank check hides this. A geo-grid, which checks your position from dozens of points around the practice, shows it.

03

Your Business Profile says "Dentist" and very little else

Categories, services and descriptions are often left at their defaults. That gives Google very little to connect your practice with the treatments you actually want to grow.

04

Your website template is holding you back

Many practices use shared dental website templates. Some limit page speed, heading structure, schema or URLs. Some of that can be fixed and some can’t, and you should know which before you pay anyone.

05

Enquiries arrive, but nobody knows where from

Without call tracking, profile insights and a simple source question at reception, SEO and word of mouth look exactly the same. Nobody can tell what’s working, so nobody can do more of it.

06

AI answers recommend the practice down the road

ChatGPT and Google’s AI Overviews build answers from reviews, directories and clear facts on practice websites. Vague pages give them nothing to quote, so they quote someone else.

Why Your Practice Needs a Dental SEO Expert, Not a Generalist

Dental websites are health content, and Google holds health content to a higher standard of trust. They’re also governed by the General Dental Council’s guidance on advertising and the ASA’s CAP Code. A generalist can lift your rankings and create a compliance problem at the same time.

Where it shows

A generalist might

A dental SEO expert has to

Titles and keywords

A generalist might

Target “orthodontist [town]” and pick Orthodontist as a profile category because it has search volume

A dental SEO expert has to

Check pages and categories against GDC rules. Only dentists on a GDC specialist list can use titles such as Orthodontist or Periodontist. Others can say “special interest in orthodontics”. For specialist-led practices, dental specialist marketing can make full use of the title.

Claims

A generalist might

Write “the best implant dentist in Guildford”, “painless” or “perfect smile”

A dental SEO expert has to

Back every claim with facts, avoid wording that raises expectations about results, and never compare your clinicians’ skills with other dentists’. Superlatives need proof under the CAP Code.

Practice information

A generalist might

Treat it as optional

A dental SEO expert has to

Show GDC numbers and qualifications (with where they were gained) for named clinicians, whether you’re NHS, mixed or private, your complaints route, a link to the GDC and the date the site was last updated. These details also work as trust signals for Google.

Reviews

A generalist might

Reply warmly and in detail to every review

A dental SEO expert has to

Never confirm in a public reply that the reviewer is a patient. Good reply templates protect confidentiality and still show you care.

Facial aesthetics

A generalist might

Promote anti-wrinkle injections like any other treatment

A dental SEO expert has to

Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine, and prescription-only medicines can’t be advertised to the public. Pages and keywords need careful framing.

NHS and private demand

A generalist might

Write one message for everyone

A dental SEO expert has to

NHS searchers want availability. Private patients research treatments, costs and finance. Mixed practices need both, without filling reception with enquiries they can’t take.

I’m not a compliance adviser. I build to the GDC’s published guidance and the CAP Code, and I flag anything your compliance lead or indemnity provider should check. Practices in Ireland answer to the Dental Council of Ireland, whose rules I check separately.

What I Do for Your Practice

I’m a dental SEO specialist first, and search sits at the centre of everything below. When a practice also needs a dental marketing specialist for paid search, social media or a new website, that work runs from the same plan, with one person accountable for all of it.

01

Map Pack and Google Business Profile

I review your categories, services, photos and posts, then track your visibility for each priority treatment across a grid around the practice.

You get: a profile fix list and monthly grid reports.

02

Treatment Pages That Rank and Convert

Implants, clear aligners, composite bonding, veneers and emergency appointments each need their own page, built around how patients research that treatment.

You get: a page plan ordered by the value of each treatment to your practice.

03

Technical SEO for Dental Websites

Speed, indexing, schema and site structure, whether your site runs on WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or a specialist dental platform.

You get: a fix list split into “I fix this” and “your web provider fixes this”.

04

AI Search Visibility

Clear facts, consistent practice details and structured information that AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity can understand and cite.

You get: a monthly sample of AI answers for your treatments and town.

05

Local Authority and Citations

Consistent practice details across directories, including the NHS website for NHS and mixed practices, plus local links that make sense for your area.

You get: a citation clean-up and a local link plan.

06

Reporting You Can Act On

A recorded walkthrough each month covering enquiries by treatment, profile calls, direction requests and booking clicks.

You get: one clear priority for the month ahead.

Beyond Search

Dental website design

New websites built with fast pages, the GDC details patients and Google look for, and treatment pages ready from day one.

Google Ads for dentists

Campaigns for your highest-value treatments, tracked to real enquiries, with your ad spend paid directly to Google.

Social media for dental practices

Consistent posts that support your reputation and follow the GDC’s rule that advertised treatments depend on a proper assessment.

Proof Before Promises

These results come from other local businesses. Under each one is what the same lever means for a dental practice.

Business Profile calls rose from about 20 to more than 126

For a dental practice: Profile calls are where many emergency and new-patient enquiries start.

Local calls up about 120% in 90 days

For a dental practice: The same map pack and profile work applies to searches such as “emergency dentist near me”.

Service-page conversions about 2.8 times higher

For a dental practice: Clearer treatment pages turn more visitors into consultation requests.

568,000 impressions in Google's AI features in 28 days

For a dental practice: This is the visibility that gets a practice named when patients ask AI tools about treatments.

These are impressions, not clicks or bookings.

Teardown: What's Holding Back a Dental Practice in London

A practice can have a strong reputation, great clinicians and excellent patient reviews, yet still be almost invisible when local patients search for treatment.

Here’s a look at the kind of local SEO issues I uncover when analysing dental practices across the UK.

The important point is that ranking locally is not just about adding “dentist in London” to a page. The strongest practices align their Google Business Profile, treatment pages, clinical expertise, local relevance and reputation into one coherent search strategy.

The search

“emergency dentist London”

What the local grid showed

The practice appeared in the top three at just 3 of 25 grid points, with visibility dropping sharply outside the immediate area.

Finding 1

The Google Business Profile was optimised primarily around “Dentist”, with limited treatment-specific services and categories.

Finding 2

The emergency dentistry page relied on generic copy and contained very little information specific to patients in London and the surrounding area.

Finding 3

Clinician profiles lacked clear GDC registration details, qualifications and supporting trust signals that could strengthen both patient confidence and the site’s overall credibility.

What I'd change first

Build a stronger local treatment page around the actual search intent, fully optimise the Google Business Profile for relevant dental services, and strengthen clinician and practice trust signals.

What Happens in Your First 90 Days

What Moves First, and What Takes Longer

Profile fixes and pages that are already close to ranking usually move first. New treatment pages and competitive towns take months, not weeks. I don’t guarantee positions, because nobody controls Google’s results. What I commit to is that you’ll always see what I did and why.

01

Before you pay

Your free recorded audit

Within two working days, you get a video walkthrough or audit document covering your map pack visibility for three treatments, your Business Profile categories and services, your top treatment page against the page outranking it, the GDC details your website should show, and one AI answer check. No call required.

02

Weeks 1 and 2

Access and a clear baseline

You add me as a user on your Business Profile, Search Console, Analytics and website, and you stay the owner of every account. I record where you rank across the grid and set up tracking for calls, forms and booking clicks. I never need patient records.

03

Weeks 3 to 6

Foundations

Profile fixes, technical fixes, clinician trust details, a citation clean-up, and templates for asking for reviews and replying to them safely.

04

Weeks 7 to 12

Treatment growth

New or rebuilt pages for your highest-value treatments, local relevance, the first authority work, and checks on how AI answers describe your practice.

05

Every month

A recorded or documented report

What changed, what it did to enquiries, and the one priority for next month.

8 Questions to Ask Any Dental SEO Expert (Including Me)

The best dental SEO experts answer all eight without hedging.

1

Which treatments would you prioritise first, and why?

A good answer names specific treatments and ties them to value and local competition.

2

How will you show enquiries, not only rankings?

Listen for call tracking, profile actions, booking clicks and a source question at reception.

3

Will I own my Business Profile, Analytics and website logins?

The only good answer is yes.

4

What does the GDC expect to see on a dental website?

They should mention GDC numbers, NHS or private status, the complaints route and a last-updated date.

5

Do you guarantee rankings?

The honest answer is no.

6

Can I see a sample monthly report?

Yes, before you sign anything.

7

What happens if I leave?

You keep everything, with notes on what was done.

8

Will you need access to patient records?

No.

Red flags: guaranteed first place, “secret” methods, links bought in bulk, long lock-in contracts, and reports that show rankings but never enquiries.

The Person Doing the Work

I’m Rasedul Islam Rupom, known as Rupom. I’m a digital marketer specialising in local SEO, Google Business Profile and AI search visibility, and dental practices are where I focus that work.

I’ve worked in SEO since 2023 and specialised in local search since 2024. Across more than 30 projects, my client work has included dental clinics, healthcare practices and local service businesses in the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada and Australia.

Dentistry suits the way I like to work. Treatments are high value, patients research carefully, and the rules on what a practice can say are strict. That rewards careful, specific work, which is how I prefer to do SEO. I don’t outsource, and you’ll never be passed to an account manager.

My certifications include Local SEO for Multiple Locations (BrightLocal), Local SEO Essentials (Semrush), SEO Specialist (HubSpot Academy), Certified Marketing Specialist (Ahrefs) and Search Engine Optimization from the University of California, Davis. I’ve received five-star client reviews on Google, Trustpilot and Clutch. I’m the author of the Local SEO × AI Prompt Library e-book, and I’m currently writing a book, From Google Maps to AI Search.

Practices I Work With

A Good Fit

Probably Not a Fit

I work with dental practices across the UK and Ireland, with a particular focus on Surrey, London and the Home Counties. Dental SEO in the UK varies town by town, so every plan starts with your own map pack.

Questions Practice Owners Ask

Profile fixes and pages that are already close to ranking often move within the first few months. New treatment pages and competitive towns take longer, usually several months of steady work. Your starting point matters most: an established site with plenty of reviews moves faster than a new squat practice.

My plans start at £400 a month for map pack work on a single practice, £650 for full practice SEO and £1,000 for multi-site groups. The price depends on how competitive your town is, how many treatments and sites you have, and the condition of your website. Full details are on the pricing page.

No. Nobody controls Google’s results, and anyone promising first place is promising something they can’t control. What I commit to is clear priorities, work you can see every month and reporting that ties search visibility to enquiries.

Yes. Mixed practices are a good fit, because the plan can bring in private treatment enquiries without flooding reception with NHS requests you can’t take. NHS-only practices with full lists usually need less marketing, and I’ll tell you that in the audit.

No. I work with your Business Profile, Search Console, Analytics and website. None of that needs patient records, and Analytics should never collect personal details from your forms.

I work UK business hours, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm UK time. I reply to emails within one working day, and free audits are delivered within two working days.

Not necessarily. WordPress, Wix, Squarespace and specialist dental website providers each have different limits. The audit separates what I can fix directly from what your web provider needs to change, so you know before you commit.

Search is my specialism, but I work as a dental marketing consultant across website design, Google Ads and social media too. Everything runs from one plan, so your ads, posts and website support the same treatments your SEO is growing.

Yes. The search work is similar, but Irish practices follow the Dental Council of Ireland rather than the GDC, and the directories and review habits differ. I adjust the plan for both.

You should see account access set up with you as the owner, a baseline of where you rank, tracking for calls and forms, a prioritised fix list and the first Business Profile changes. If a month passes without visible evidence of work, ask why.
